Balancing Truth And Fact With Speculation And Theory

In a post in FidoNet, a person stated in part:

"...A very few select scientists will be making
presentations in keeping with the Summit's agenda of what
America's objectives for space should be, now that we know
for certain that extraterrestrial life exists..."

Based on the questionable data presented so far by the
scientific community, I find the above comments to be an
over-exaggeration & distortion of the truth...if there is
any truth in it at all. The _possible_ discovery of
carbonateous deposits along side what are theorized to be
ancient bacterial signatures in a purported martian
meteorite is a far cry from intelligent sentient life. This
whole scenario has been completely blown out of proportion
since the first day that it was announced. It appears that
some within the UFOlogical field are grabbing at any straws
they can to support their pet doctrines & theories.

What we must all remember is that we are dealing here
primarily with THEORY and SPECULATION, nothing more, nothing
less. The world at large has not yet been presented with any
REAL SOLID PHYSICAL EVIDENCE. All we have is the word of
some enthusiastic scientists...many who want to make a name
for themselves, or else ensure the budget of their favorite
college or university. They must produce something,
regardless of how controversial or theoretical, to keep the
funds flowing.

Consider the 'evidence' we have been presented with thus
far:

1. A 'Martian' meteorite which _may_ bear signatures of
ancient bacterial life....not intelligent space-faring life.
Anything said beyond this is mere wishful thinking, &
over-zealousness and is based on THEORY & SPECULATION. .

2. The possible discovery of ice in a lunar crater in the
South-Pole Aitken basin. This has not been positively
identified as such, so it is still THEORY. Even the
composition of this 'ice' has not been firmly established.
The time, expense & technology needed to mine & utilize this
'ice' has already been discussed before.

3. The purported discovery of new planets revolving around
other stars in our galaxy. This is also THEORY. The general
public needs to be reminded that these scientists and
astronomers have not actually SEEN these planets. Based on
the Doppler effect, an observed wobble in stellar movement,
etc. these scientists are merely THEORIZING as to what might
be causing this. Even Hubble is not powerful enough to
actually see these planets.

The main point here, if it hasn't already become clear, is
that we are dealing with THEORY THEORY THEORY... SPECULATION
SPECULATION SPECULATION. Thanks to an overly-hyped and
controlled mass media, & to some within Ufology who want
'easy proof' to support their pet doctrines and beliefs, we
are now being bombarded with all kinds of wild theories,
channeled messages, talk of mass landings, aliens incarnated
in human form, in short, the whole gamut of fringe ideas.

I am not saying that other planets do not exist in our
galaxy. Neither am I denying the possibility that there may
be life, intelligent or otherwise, somewhere else in the
universe. Who am I to judge or limit the power and will of
God. What He did here, He could have likewise done
elsewhere...in many elsewheres. There are many things in the
Bible which, partially due to translation, as well as
political & religious influences, are not made clear to the
modern reader. There is a substantial amount of evidence in
the Bible which does point to ancient visitation by
out-of-this-world beings...but as to whether these beings
are/were physical or spiritual in nature, is something which
we must all decide for ourselves.

The point is, we would all be wise to maintain some
self-discipline in this whole affair of aliens and UFO's.
Let us all be hopeful that we are not alone, but let us also
practice a healthy skepticism until things are positively
proven one way or the other, with SOLID PHYSICAL evidence.
Whether it be the return of Christ, or a massive UFO
landing, or maybe even both, surely in time, we will know
one way or the other...for time has a way of exposing the
charlatans, false prophets and joy riders for what they
really are, while at the same time revealing the truth to
those who will receive it.
