Endtime Prophecy Net - Bible Tidbits

Derived from the Latin "testamentum", meaning "to bear witness", in the Biblical sense, the word "testament" refers to a covenant made between God and man. In the Old Testament, God's Covenant with humanity was based upon the mandates of the Mosaic Law, and people were judged, and punished, according to their obedience to it. Under the Old Covenant, or Old Testament, forgiveness and atonement was achieved through periodic blood offerings, or sacrifices. In the New Testament era, that is, in the Christian era, God's Covenant with humanity is based upon the Sacrifice of His own dear Son, Jesus Christ; and it is through our belief in, and acceptance of Christ's Sacrifice, as the Sole Testator of the New Covenant, that we find Atonement, and forgiveness of sins. As the Apostle Paul wrote: "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" 1 Timothy 2:5, KJV Please refer to the WordWeaver's article "The Blood Atonement: In Jesus' Own Words".
