The Buddhist belief in reincarnation, that is, that one must be born many times, in order that he might gradually perfect himself, and thus eventually escape the cycle of reincarnations, and merit a state of absolute blessedness referred to as Nirvana, is totally false. Like some forms of modern Christianity, reincarnation is based upon the false concept of Salvation through one's own good works, instead of through the Saving Grace, and the Atoning Blood, of Jesus Christ. As the Apostle Paul wrote: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9, KJV Furthermore, the Bible clearly teaches us that we are each given one lifetime, and not many, in which to repent of our sins and unbelief, and make the right choice to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Consider these verses: "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" Hebrews 9:27, KJV And also: "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." James 4:14, KJV
