Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Begins Process to Upgrade Palestinian Status to "Non-Member State" at United Nations

Benjamin Netanyahu and his ilk are just full of so much hot air. Shortly after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas delivered his recent speech to the United Nations General Assembly, in which he began the process to hopefully upgrade the Palestinians' status from "observer entity" to "non-member state" -- which would give the Palestinians more legal weight in the world body -- Netanyahu likewise addressed the UN General Assembly. Keep Your Eyes on Turkey -- Anatolia

I was just reading an interesting article in the New York Times entitled "For Turkey, Lure of Tie to Europe Is Fading". This news article describes how Turkish interest in becoming a member of the European Union has been fading in recent years, particularly due to the financial difficulties that Europe has been facing in recent years, as well as due to the fact that the Europeans have been giving a cold, indifferent shoulder to Turkish aspirations in recent years. Vladimir V. Putin -- Russia's Long-Term Leader

As you may have heard, this past Saturday, September 24th, current Russian President Dmitri A. Medvedev announced at a United Russia party convention that he would not offer resistance to current Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin replacing him as Russia's president in the upcoming Russian presidential election in March of 2012. While Medvedev's close allies and supporters expressed disappointment at his announcement, as a whole, thousands of United Russia party members who attended the convention welcomed the announcement with enthusiasm.
