I realized many years ago that this world is simply not where it's at. Everything that this world has to offer pales when compared to what God offers us through the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ. You may recall that in writing about his New Life in Christ, the Apostle Paul wrote that he viewed everything in his life prior to coming to Christ as dung, as we see here:
"Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,"
Philippians 3:8, KJV
Now, just in case your personal sensitivities may cause you to miss, or perhaps even to try to whitewash exactly what Paul is saying there, that word "dung" is derived from the Greek word "skubalon". According to Thayer's Greek English Lexicon, that word means "any refuse, as the excrement of animals, offscourings, rubbish, dregs". So, yes, dear friends; Paul is saying that his former life as a privileged Roman citizen, and as a proud Pharisee of the Pharisees, amounted to the excremental discharge of a male cow!
But concerning the temporal, materialistic enticements of this current world, let me again remind you of what the Apostle John had to say:
"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."
1 John 2:15-17, KJV
So folks, please keep your eyes on Jesus, who is our only High Priest, our only Mediator, and the Author and the Finisher of our Faith. Amen!
