My Thoughts Regarding the Olympics

In a word, the Olympics are really of no interest to me whatsoever. They are about the flesh, boast of the flesh, and they promote pride, human strength and patriotism. They represent man's vanity and the spirit of the world, as opposed to the Spirit of God and of Christ.

The competitive spirit behind sports is really not that much different from the spirit of war. In fact, down through history, a number of wars have begun as a result of some sports event.

The Apostle John sums up well what I think of sports and the Olympics in the following verses that are found in his first Epistle:

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the PRIDE OF LIFE, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."
1 John 2:15-17, KJV

The pride of life. Does anything more really need to be said about the Olympics?
