How to Syndicate WordPress Blog to Google+ Using OnlyWire Service

For those of you who have been wondering how to syndicate your self-hosted WordPress blog posts to Google+, I have discovered a service which will allow you to do this. However, please note that the way that it works is somewhat like posting a message to Twitter. In other words, this method will only post the blog entry title, along with a direct link to the entry on your blog. It will not syndicate the entire blog entry contents. But, that is better than syndicating nothing at all to Google+, right?

To avail yourself of this service, after reading this entire post, please go to the OnlyWire.com website for the details. You will have to open an account with them, and then activate the specific services that you want to syndicate to. In my case, I just activated Google+ and LinkedIn.

If all you are planning on doing is submitting your entries from one WordPress blog to Google+, then the free OnlyWire account will suffice, as it allows you to make up to 300 submissions per month via OnlyWire.

That is why I just chose to activate Google+ and LinkedIn on the OnlyWire website, and nothing else. It will ensure that I don't use up all 300 free submissions too quickly.

In other words, if you make one blog post per day, and syndicate it to Google+ and LinkedIn, that counts as 2 submissions per day. In a month consisting of 30 days, that would total 60 submissions for the month.

In essence then, if you make one blog post per day, and syndicate it to 10 different services on the OnlyWire website, that would be considered 10 submissions per day, or a total of 300 submissions by the end of a 30-day month.

If you make more than one blog post per day, then, of course, you will have to be judicious regarding how many services you choose to syndicate to. My primary interest is Google+, so the 300 free submissions per month is no problem for me.

If you require more than 300 submissions per month -- for example, if you are running multiple blogs that you want to syndicate -- OnlyWire.com also offers several commercial accounts.

To get the most out of the OnlyWire.com 300 submissions per month free service, here are some important tips that you will want to follow:

1. After you install the OnlyWire client and WordPress plug-in on your machine, on the OnlyWire settings page in WordPress, make sure that you do not enable theĀ Show Bookmark & Share Button option, as otherwise, your blog visitors will also have the option to share your posts using the services that you have enabled. While normally, that would be a good thing, the downside is that giving them this option will quickly use up your 300 free monthly submissions via OnlyWire.

In other words, each time that your visitors click on a syndicate or share button, that counts towards your 300 free monthly submissions. In short, it is better to use another WordPress plug-in -- such as JetPack -- if you want to offer syndication options to your blog visitors.

2. After the OnlyWire client is installed on your computer, it must be running at all times in order for submissions to work. If this does not happen, and if you are running it on a Macintosh, launch the System Preferences app, go to the Users and Groups pane, select your account, and then add the OnlyWire client to the Login Items window.

3. Once the OnlyWire client is installed on your computer, you will see a new lightning bolt icon in your menubar. If you make a new blog entry, but then don't see it syndicated to Google+ within a minute or two, click on the OnlyWire lightning bolt icon and select Check for Work.

4. In the WordPress new blog post window, right below the text editor section, you will notice a new section that says OnlyWire Bookmark & Share. Right below that title, there will be a box with the text Post this to OnlyWire. Make sure that the box is checked. It should already be checked by default.

The OnlyWire client and WordPress plug-in have been working flawlessly since I installed them some time ago. My WordPress blog entries are posted to my Google+ stream on a daily basis.
