Above are images of Smokey and Bandit at six weeks and two days old, taken just over an hour ago. In these pictures, they are playing together in a cardboard box in the kitchen. While Bandit is usually the aggressor and likes to bully her brother a lot, in this particular case, she was getting a taste of her own medicine, because she was the one who was laying in the box trying to defend herself, while Smokey pranced around on top of her, taking playful nips at her ears, legs and such.
These two kittens have been quite the amusing pair lately, scampering all around the house, chasing each other, challenging each other to playful duels, running along the top of the sofa and chairs in the living room, and wherever else they have learned to climb. All the while, mother Socks just watches over them as they engage in their playful antics. Of course, Socks the Cat likes to become involved in their crazy play as well, and she will often chase them all around the house, stalking them like prey, just waiting for them to bounce around a corner. It is rather funny watching Smokey and Bandit put up their little paws in their mother's face, as if they are really capable of defending themselves against her.
These little kittens are mischievous as well, and I sometimes wonder how much longer Socks' patience will endure, as her kittens continually bat at and bite her tail, etc. However, Socks the Cat seems to take it all with stride, apparently realizing that it is all a part of their training, and growing up into cats who can defend themselves against potential threats in their lives.
For her part, Socks has been demanding quite a bit of affection lately, which I am happy to provide for her, if I am not too busy working on my computer. Due to the high protein diet she has been receiving, her coat continues to look very healthy and glossy, and she is a much fuller-bodied cat now that she has been in our home for three and a half months. She has certainly put on some weight; but it is not fat, it is muscle.
That's all for now. I hope that you have enjoyed this latest peek into the lives of Socks the Cat and her two kittens, Smokey and Bandit.
