EAR - To work, till, or plough the ground.

The oxen likewise and the young asses that EAR the ground shall eat clean provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan.  Isaiah 30:24, KJV

EARING - Plowing; tilling the ground.

For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be EARING nor harvest.  Genesis 45:6, KJV

EARNEST - A pledge.

Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; who hath also sealed us, and given the EARNEST of the Spirit in our hearts.  2 Corinthians 1:21-22, KJV

EASTER - Passover.

And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after EASTER to bring him forth to the people.  Acts 12:4, KJV

EDIFY - To construct, build up or establish.

Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may EDIFY another.  Romans 14:19, KJV

EFFECTUAL - Effective service; active work.

But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost. For a great door and EFFECTUAL is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.  1 Corinthians 16:8-9, KJV

ELDER - Older; greater in age.

Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were ELDER than he.  Job 32:4, KJV

ELIAS - Elijah.

And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for ELIAS.  Mark 9:5, KJV

ELISEUS - Elisha.

And many lepers were in Israel in the time of ELISEUS the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.  Luke 4:27, KJV

EMERODS - Tumors; hemorrhoids.

But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with EMERODS, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.  1 Samuel 5:6, KJV

EMINENT - Something raised up high.

And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine EMINENT place, and shall break down thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare. They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords.  Ezekiel 16:39-40, KJV

EMULATION - Jealousy.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, EMULATIONS, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.  Galatians 5:19-21, KJV

ENGINE - Warlike invention.

And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones. And he made in Jerusalem ENGINEs, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal.  2 Chronicles 26:14-15, KJV

ENJOIN - To command; charge.

For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath ENJOINED unto you.  Hebrews 9:19-20, KJV

ENMITY - Hostility; hatred.

And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: and I will put ENMITY between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.  Genesis 3:14-15, KJV

ENSAMPLE - An example.

And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost: So that ye were ENSAMPLES to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.  1 Thessalonians 1:7-8, KJV

ENSIGN - A banner; sign; memorial.

And He will lift up an ENSIGN to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly.  Isaiah 5:26, KJV

ENSUE - To pursue after.

For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ENSUE it.  1 Peter 3:10-11, KJV

ENTREAT - To treat; use.

And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously ENTREATED Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself. And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.  Acts 27:3-4, KJV

ENTREAT - To comfort; attempt to reconcile; help.

Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace; And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: Being defamed, we ENTREAT: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.  1 Corinthians 4:11-13, KJV

ENTREATIES - Pleadings; humble requests.

The poor useth ENTREATIES; but the rich answereth roughly.  Proverbs 18:23, KJV

ENVIRON - To surround; compass.

For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall ENVIRON us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?  Joshua 7:9, KJV

EPHAH - A Hebrew measurement.

Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of an homer shall yield an EPHAH.  Isaiah 5:10, KJV

EPISTLE - A letter sent.

I charge you by the Lord that this EPISTLE be read unto all the holy brethren.  1 Thessalonians 5:27, KJV

EQUITY - Uprightness.

But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with EQUITY for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.  Isaiah 11:4, KJV

ERE - Before.

How long will it be ERE ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.  Job 18:2, KJV

ESAIAS - Isaiah.

Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet ESAIAS.  John 1:23, KJV

ESCHEW - To avoid; turn aside from.

ESPOUSED - To be asked in marriage.

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was ESPOUSED to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.  Matthew 1:18, KJV

ESPY - To see; behold.

And as one of them opened his sack to give his ass provender in the inn, he ESPIED his money; for, behold, it was in his sack's mouth. And he said unto his brethren, My money is restored; and, lo, it is even in my sack: and their heart failed them, and they were afraid, saying one to another, What is this that God hath done unto us?  Genesis 42:27-28, KJV

ESTRANGED - To be a stranger.

Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth. The wicked are ESTRANGED from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.  Psalm 58:2-3, KJV

EUROCLYDON - A furious, north-easterly wind.

And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete. But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called EUROCLYDON.  Acts 27:13-14, KJV

EVANGELIST - Messenger of good tidings.

But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an EVANGELIST, make full proof of thy ministry.  2 Timothy 4:5, KJV

EVENINGTIDE - Evening time.

And behold at EVENINGTIDE trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.  Isaiah 17:14, KJV

EVENTIDE - Evening time.

And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the EVENTIDE was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.  Mark 11:11, KJV

EVERY SEVERAL - Each individual; each one separately.

And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. EVERY WHIT - Whole; all.

EXACTOR - Overseer.

EXPOUND - To set forth; to declare.

This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and EXPOUNDED unto him the way of God more perfectly.  Acts 18:25-26, KJV

EXTOL - To lift up; esteem; praise.

David's Psalm of praise. I will EXTOL thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.  Psalm 145:1-2, KJV

EXTORTIONER - A greedy, ravenous person.

Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, EXTORNIONERS, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.  Luke 18:10-11, KJV

EYESALVE - Medicine for the eyes.

I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with EYESALVE, that thou mayest see.  Revelation 3:18, KJV

EYESERVICE - Only while being watched.

Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; not with EYESERVICE, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.  Ephesians 6:5-8, KJV
