A Discussion On Unforgivable Sin & Angelic Judgement

Some time ago I was involved in a conversation in which we
were discussing the fact that the Bible states that Jesus
was made a little lower than the angels. There are actually
three verses in the Bible which mention this. I will quote
the verses around them in order to give the proper context
of each one:

"What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of
man, that thou visitest him?" (Psalms 8:4)

"For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and
hast crowned him with glory and honour." (Psalms 8:5)

And then in Hebrews we find Paul reflecting back on the
words of David the Psalmist in describing Christ's ministry
on Earth:

"But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man,
that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou
visitest him?" (Hebrews 2:6)

"Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou
crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over
the works of thy hands:" (Hebrews 2:7)

"Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For
in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing
that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things
put under him." (Hebrews 2:8)

"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the
angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and
honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for
every man." (Hebrews 2:9)

"For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are
all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the
captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings."
(Hebrews 2:10)

From this point, the discussion was expanded to include the
judgement of angels by humans. This can be found in I
Corinthians 6:3 which says:

"Know ye not that we shall judge angels? How much more
things that pertain to this life?"

If you read the epistles in their entirety, you will see
that Paul was in tune to a number of deep spiritual truths
which he only touched on lightly. As he himself said 'Strong
meat belongeth to them that are of full age.':

"For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need
that one teach you again which be the first principles of
the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of
milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk
is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even
those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to
discern both good and evil." (Hebrews 5:12-14)

While Paul hinted at certain meaty topics, he didn't give us
alot of detail & left us hanging with some of them. This one
about judging angels is one of them. Exactly what he meant
by this is hard to say, and open to a lot of speculation. An
interpretation I have heard over the years which seems to
make sense is that having partaken of this life as well as
the next (when we get there), this will place us in a unique
position, just as Jesus also acquired a unique position by
having partaken of the heavenly realm as well as the earthly

I have heard it said that one reason that Jesus makes such a
great intercessor for us is because He came here and lived
in the flesh. He experienced all of the feelings & emotions,
trials and tribulations & heartaches, etc. that we humans
experience. He truly understands our human frailities,
weaknesses and shortcomings. As we are also told, 'He
learned obedience by the things which He suffered.':

"Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the
things which he suffered;" (Hebrews 5:8)

For these reasons, Jesus is the best Defense Attorney we can
have against the accusations of the Devil, the Prosecuting
Attorney in the Heavenly Courts.

In like manner, we are also learning (or will learn)
obedience through the things which we suffer in this life
and in the times to come. Consider what Jesus said about
John the Baptist. He said that he was the least in the
kingdom in Heaven:

"Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women
there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist:
notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is
greater than he." (Matthew 11:11)

What did He mean by that? I'm not exactly sure, but I don't
believe Jesus meant His statement to be taken as a put-down
of John, after all, John had prepared the way before Him,
and in Jesus' own words, John carried the spirit of Elijah:

"And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to
come." (Matthew 11:14)

It is possible that Jesus may have been implying that until
one goes all the way and gives their life for the Lord, as
John eventually did, they are still low on God's scale of
"greatness." This is just a speculation on my part, but
consider what Jesus said in the Gospel of Luke:

"And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let
him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow
me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but
whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall
save it." (Luke 9:23-24)

While theses verses are referring to denying our own wants
and needs and dedicating our lives to Christ on a daily
basis, just as the first disciples were called to do, in
these Latter Days they may also be applied in the literal
sense that some of us may eventually be called to give up
our physical lives as a testimony to the ungodly world of
our faith in Jesus Christ and the Resurrection.

Now consider the angels in Heaven. As far as we know, they
have always lived in the spiritual realm. They have always
been spiritual beings. They have never suffered the hassles
of this life. And let's face it, this life is indeed hard,
especially as you get older and acquire more
responsibilites, your body begins to break down, etc. But we
can only wonder if the angels have had it as hard as we do.
None of us really know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised
if they lead a relatively easy existence in the presence of
God. Yes, there are spiritual battles to be fought, but at
the same time, from the book of Revelation, we are given the
impression that there is a lot of shouting and praising near
the throne of God night and day. Not only that, even though
they do partake in spiritual battles, such as is
demonstrated in the books of Daniel and Revelation, they
have spiritual bodies which obviously do not tire as our
frail human bodies do.

So, looking at it from this viewpoint, it could be that
because of these conditions I have just mentioned, perhaps
we indeed acquire a status even higher than that of the
angels. The only other possibility I can think of is that we
will judge the angels which have rebelled against God and
follow Satan to the Earth during the Great Tribulation.
While the Bible says, 'Vengeance is mine saith the Lord,'
maybe God will allow us to pass judgement on the devils and
demons which will have persecuted us during the Great
Tribulation. It sounds like an feasible possibility to me.

Another question which was posed to me more recently is the
following: "The Word says that some of the demons were
bound in chains under the earth to await judgement day.
These were probably the 'ringleaders' of the original
rebellion. However there ARE obviously demons that are NOT
bound under the earth but that are roaming among us. Do you
think these were given a lesser judgement, and that God may
perhaps be giving them a last chance to turn back to the
light? Or are all of the angels who took part in the
original rebellion irreparably doomed?"

To give a fuller answer on this, I would have to go back and
re-read parts of the Book of Enoch where most of these
events are described more fully. From reading the passages
in the epistle of Jude though, he does not appear to make a
differentiation between the ringleaders such as Mastema,
Azazel and Semjaza, and their followers. He simply says:

"And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left
their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains
under darkness unto the judgment of the great day." (Jude

In my view, I would think that they would ALL be responsible
for their own actions. Adam tried blaming Eve, but it didn't
work, did it? And what does Paul say?:

"So then every one of us shall give account of himself to
God." (Romans 14:12)

I would think that the above verse applies to both humans
and spiritual entities. God is impartial and righteous in
His judgments. He isn't going to judge you for something
which someone else did. We each have the free will to
choice, including The Watchers, or fallen angels.

As far as the fallen angels and demons which currently roam
among us, they obviously serve God's purpose, otherwise they
would not be allowed to do so, right? In fact, there is an
example in the Old Testament where God purposely allowed a
lying spirit to go deceive King Ahab. These verses are quite
interesting as they give us a quick glimpse into the
workings in the Halls of Heaven:

"And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go
up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner,
and another said on that manner. And there came forth a
spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade
him. And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I
will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of
all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and
prevail also: go forth, and do so. Now therefore, behold,
the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these
thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning
thee." (1 Kings 22:20-23)

Why did the Lord allow this to happen? For the same reason
that Paul tells us God will send strong delusion in the Last
Days: because they no longer love the truth and WANT to be

"And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that
perish; because they received not the love of the truth,
that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send
them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:" (2
Thessalonians 2:10-11)

The same person also asked me the following question: "The
question is, when the Saints 'judge' angels will some of the
angels be damned and others saved?"

That's a very good question. As I said previously, we all
know that God is a righteous judge. He goes the extra mile
with everyone:

"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men
count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not
willing that any should perish, but that all should come to
repentance." (2 Peter 3:9)

As a confirmation of this, consider how Jesus went to preach
to the spirits imprisoned in the Earth during the time His
physical body was laying in the sepulchre:

"By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in
prison;" (1 Peter 3:19)

Why would Jesus do this unless there was still a chance for
them? I don't think He would go just to torment them, do
you? Likewise, the fact that there is a judgement implies
that a final decision has not yet been made, correct? If
they were already fully condemned, one would think that
there would no longer be a need to judge them. On the other
hand, you could argue that the judgement is just to
determine their degree of punishment. They have already been
judged, but their sentence hasn't been handed out yet. But
again, based on the verse in Peter, I think there may still
be a chance for some. Remember, according to the Bible, the
only unforgiveable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost.
Jesus made this very clear:

"Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy
shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the
Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever
speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven
him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall
not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the
world to come." (Matthew 12:31-32)

Well, we must ask ourselves, exactly what is meant by
blasphemy against the Holy Ghost? To begin with, exactly
what is the Holy Ghost? It is the Spirit of Truth, the very
essence of God's being. Consider what Jesus said in this

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you
from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth
from the Father, he shall testify of me:" (John 15:26).

To blaspheme the Holy Ghost is akin to blaspheming God
Himself. In addition, by denying God's ultimate truth, the
most important message throughout the Bible, that Jesus is
the Son of God and redeemer of the world, people are calling
God a liar, and we know that God is not a liar:

"In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie,
promised before the world began;" (Titus 1:2)

Now, if those imprisoned spirits are/were willing to repent
and accept Jesus' dominion and authority, then perhaps there
is/was still a chance of salvation for them. This is highly
speculatory and is only my view, but it seems to make sense.
One important thing worth mentioning here is that those
imprisoned spirits Paul is referring to appear to be those
who have lived BEFORE Jesus manifested Himself on Earth, and
BEFORE He died on the cross for the remission of our sins,
in other words, everyone who had lived during the Old
Testament period and up to Jesus' arrival. If nothing else,
by reading verse twenty, we see him making a direct
reference to those who perished during Noah's flood:

"Which sometime were disobedient, when once the
longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the
ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were
saved by water." (1 Peter 3:20)

To be fair and righteous about things, God would have to
give them a chance to accept salvation. Remember, those in
the Old Testament looked FORWARD in faith, while we of the
New Testament era look BACK in faith...and then there are
those who lived DURING Christ's time. It could be that they
will receive the harshest judgment of all. One thing we do
know is that, according to Matthew, at the time of Jesus'
resurrection, many others were likewise resurrected:

"And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints
which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his
resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto
many." (Matthew 27:52-53)

As Paul explains in his chapter dealing with the
resurrection of the dead, Jesus was the FirstFruit, and
these were His FirstFruits from the dead:

"But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the
firstfruits of them that slept." (1 Corinthians 15:20)

"But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits;
afterward they that are Christ's at his coming." (1
Corinthians 15:23)

"These are they which were not defiled with women; for they
are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb
whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men,
being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb." (Revelation

This then leads to the question: Well, what about those who
have lived SINCE Jesus' life and death on the cross? Will
they be given this same opportunity if they die in unbelief,
after having heard the truth? Notice that I have
specifically said 'AFTER having heard the truth.' If we
equate blasphemy against the Holy Ghost as being calling the
Spirit of God a liar, which means that Jesus is not the
Saviour, as stated above, then according to Jesus' own
pronouncement, it appears that they will not be forgiven in
this life or in the next. They have sealed their fate by
their own stubborness and hardheartedness. One verse which
seems to add a degree of finality to the life, death and
judgement cycle is Hebrews 9:27:

"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this
the judgment:"

This verse not only knocks the possibility of reincarnation
out of the ring, but it also tells us that you get one
chance to do it right...but you have your whole life to do
it. Personally, I believe in the absolute righteousness of
God. Some people like to argue, 'Well, what if a person
never had an opportunity to hear about Jesus Christ? What if
they are some forgotten tribe living back in the jungles of
South America or Indonesia for example?' I have no doubt
that everyone will be given an opportunity. Jesus promised
this in Matthew 24:

"And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the
world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end
come." (Matthew 24:14)

Not only that, we are told that prior to the Second Coming,
there will be angels blasting on their shofars (trumpets)
during the Great Tribulation, there will be the two
sackcloth witnesses who will proclaim the truth to the world
from Jerusalem for the entire 3 1/2 year period letting
everyone know what is going on, there will be all kinds of
plagues and judgements of God against the wicked, etc. In
short, I believe that God is going to give everyone a fair
chance. He is going to do His best to wake everyone up to
the Truth. He has too, otherwise He wouldn't be a righteous
God or a Righteous Judge, would He? And being the Accuser
that he is, I don't think that Satan would let the Lord off
the hook so easily.

In spite of all of these things going on, some people will
still utterly reject the truth and blaspheme against God's
spirit beginning with the Antichrist himself. The more the
Lord deals with them through the various judgments during
the Great Tribulation, the more they will rebel against Him
and blaspheme Him:

"And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the
name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they
repented not to give him glory." (Revelation 16:9)

"And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the
beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like
unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there
was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and
blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty
and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against
God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them
that dwell in heaven." (Revelation 13:4-6)

These folks are the totally incorrigibles, the hardened
crimminals in God's eyes. And what will be the fate of the
followers of the Antichrist and the False Prophet? Well,
they may not know it now, but they are going to be invited
to dinner, not to the Marriage Feast of the Lamb, but rather
to the buzzards of the air!:

"And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a
loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of
heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper
of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and
the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the
flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh
of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. And I
saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies,
gathered together to make war against him that sat on the
horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and
with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him,
with which he deceived them that had received the mark of
the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both
were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat
upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and
all the fowls were filled with their flesh." (Revelation

These folks will have totally accepted the lie, denying the
divinity of Christ, and will have accepted Satan as their
Saviour instead...and that is blasphemy against the Holy
Ghost, the unpardonable sin. Remember what Jesus said:
blasphemy of the Holy Ghost won't be forgiven in this life
or in the next. That statement has a tone of finality to it.
If you read closely, it doesn't say that the followers of
the A-C are cast into the Lake of Fire, it says that the
Antichrist and False Prophet are, AND that they are thrown
in ALIVE! These are two human beings, NOT spiritual entities
as some might like to suppose. As to the followers of the
A-C, we are told that Jesus will destroy them with the
spirit (sword) going forth from His mouth and that their
physical bodies are then devoured by the fowls of the air.
All Jesus has to do is speak the word and they are
destroyed! Whether this means the destruction of both their
body and spirit is hard to say. Going by other verses, it
would seem that the total destruction of their spirits will
be reserved for the final Great White Throne judgment
discussed further on in this paper.

We are then told that Satan is bound with chains, just like
The Watchers of Genesis and Enochian fame, and cast into The
Abyss, or Bottomless Pit for 1,000 years during Christ's
reign on Earth:

"And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of
the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he
laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the
Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast
him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal
upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till
the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he
must be loosed a little season." (Revelation 20:1-3)

Following the defeat of the un Holy Trio, (Satan,
Antichrist, False Prophet) and their followers at
Armageddon, and the imprisonment of Satan, we have the First
Resurrection. The Bible is very specific in stating that
this resurrection is ONLY for those who have died in Christ
and NOT for the rest of the people of the world who have

"And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was
given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were
beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God,
and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image,
neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in
their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a
thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again
until the thousand years were finished. This is the first
resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the
first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power,
but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall
reign with him a thousand years." (Revelation 20:4-6)

Following the Millennial rule of Christ on Earth with His
saved children, Satan is given one more chance to deceive
the nations following his release from the Bottomless Pit.
As surprising as it may seem, he is STILL able to find those
who are willing to rebel against the Lord and the camp of
the Saints, in spite of the fact that they have actually
seen and witnessed Christ's rule on Earth for a 1,000 years!
They have had a full thousand years to learn the lessons the
Lord has been trying to teach us all for millennia already,
yet they fail miserably. As we are told in Jeremiah:

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately
wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9).

Notice in the following verses how God's judgements are
QUICK! He is finally done wasting His time with the

"And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be
loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the
nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and
Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom
is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth
of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about,
and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of
heaven, and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them
was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the
beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day
and night for ever and ever. (Revelation 20:7-10)

It is right after this that we read about the final Great
White Throne judgment in which all who have ever lived will
be raised from the dead for their judgment:

"And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it,
from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and
there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small
and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and
another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the
dead were judged out of those things which were written in
the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the
dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the
dead which were in them: and they were judged every man
according to their works. And death and hell were cast into
the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever
was not found written in the book of life was cast into the
lake of fire." (Revelation 20:11-15)

This chapter is followed by the greatest most inspiring
chapters in the entire Bible, the arrival of the New Heaven
and the New Earth, and the descent from Heaven of God's
beautiful city New Jerusalem. I invite you all to read it.
It will inspire your hearts. For as Jesus said:

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe
also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it
were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place
for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am,
there ye may be also." (John 14:1-3)

It won't be long folks. This life will soon be past, and
only what is done for Christ will last! What are YOU doing
for the Lord?
